About Me

It must be about ME
Don't you see?  Or,
It's all about others
And how they see ME
Family and friends,
They laugh and play,
But don't you see?
I must have the last say.
Anecdotes and events
That you want to share,
If they are not about ME
Why should I care?
Going through life without
Sisters or brothers, taught ME
That caring is not about others.
Now that I have spoken,
I hope you will see,
If it is all about anything,
It must be all about ME.

A Smile

Eyes bright, yet damp.
Crow's feet stretching
At the corners, showing
Only time, not sadness.
Her lips parted and ready
To reveal all those years
Wrought with pain, joy,
And the wisdom of life
Close to the earth, her reality.

TODAY

I focus on the present.
To look back is dark.
To look forward is toxic.
The icicles of yesterday
Will drown me tomorrow.
I need the sunshine today.

QUESTIONS

Where is the pride?
That of country?
Where is the concern?
For others, and ourselves?
Where is the anger,
That children shoot each other?
That a noose is used as a threat?
To a college professor?
To a police officer? To anyone, anyone at all?
Why do we accept destroying Iraq,
And refususing to fix New Orleans?
Why is "No Child Left Behind" needed,
If no healthcare for that child is not?
Does anyone care, at all?

QUESTIONS REVISED

The "now generation"
That wants it all
Is just filled with
Avarice that will
Lead them to fall.
Who has taught
Them to be such fools?
Why do they play
By such dangerous rules?
The answer of course
Lies with people like us,
Those fearful parents
Who make no fuss.
How easy it is just to let go,
How hard it is just to say "NO."
Have we forgotten
Values are not fake?
To succeed in life
There are risks to take.
It is not just having
Some unique ability,
Achievement dwells
Within true humility.
The questions asked,
The challenges now,
Have to be met with
Courage somehow.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY

TOO OFTEN..........
I WAS TOO BUSY LOOKING FORWARD TO TOMORROW.

TOO OFTEN.........
I WAS TOO BUSY FEARING ALL THOSE "YESTERDAYS."

TOO OFTEN.........
I WAS TOO BUSY TO SEE THAT "TODAY" IS WHERE

                                     I SHOULD BE

REFLECTIONS

A cracked
Mirror,
Reflections
Of a lost
Youth.
Innocense,
Love,
Time.
It Is
All for
Naught if
There is no
Hope.

A Responsibility

Our children hope
We are the beacons,
The guardians of
All their tomorrow's.
We are charged with
Preserving their smiles,
Holding their dreams and
It is time to search for
Our conscience, a trip
Into a vacuum created
By a loss of humility.
Our standards are there,
The question:  Do we dare?
